Welcome to the Minnesota Cup

Welcome to the 7th Annual Minnesota Cup

Governor Mark Dayton The Minnesota Cup competition for aspiring Minnesota entrepreneurs has attracted more than 5,000 entries since 2005. Each year the contest has grown, which is a testament to its success and a tribute to the innovation of Minnesotans. Whether a new invention or a new way of doing business, the Minnesota Cup is looking for entries from all Minnesota entrepreneurs.

The Minnesota Cup presents entrepreneurs and start-up companies with a unique opportunity in these challenging economic times. More than $150,000 in seed capital and many hours of professional services are awarded to competition winners across six divisions. Beyond the cash and prizes, participants gain exposure for their ideas, strengthen their business plans, and make strong connections in the business community. The payoff is real: 2009 and 2010 Minnesota Cup finalists have secured more than $15 million in capital and have brokered important business partnerships, collaborations and distribution agreements.

The Minnesota Cup is a broad, community-led effort, which was founded and continues to be hosted by the University of Minnesota, Wells Fargo and the State of Minnesota. Additional lead sponsors of the competition include Carlson Companies and Arrowhead Growth Alliance, which is an economic development organization representing Northeastern Minnesota.

The Minnesota Cup is a shining example of what is possible when government, academia and the business community work together to help facilitate real business growth.

Sincerely,

Mark Dayton

Governor
